Cathy Myers-Jusko, Assistant Principal

I have been working at P.S. 51 for seven years. Nancy Sing-Bock and I started here together. Nancy and I have known each other as friends and colleagues for the last 21 years. We worked together for 11 years in an elementary school on the Lower East Side as teachers and staff developers. After that, we both studied and interned in school administration at different schools. I still live on the Lower East Side, in Stuyvesant Town, where I first moved in 1971 from Flushing, Queens, where I grew up. I have lived in the same apartment for all these years. I have a daughter, Christina, who is 25 years old and a graduate student at Columbia University’s School of the Arts. She is studying creative non-fiction and is also a wonderful poet. I am married to Danny, my high-school sweetheart. We found each other again in 1991 and have been together ever since. Danny’s son Christopher is my step-son. He is 19 years old. I have a B.A. in anthropology and a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Fordham University. I also have a Masters Degree in School Administration and Supervision from Baruch’s School of Public Affairs. I have loved working at P.S. 51 ever since I stepped through the front doors! Our school is truly a unique place, a small learning community where the staff is privileged to know our students and their families very well. We are small enough to be able to give individual attention to each and every student and that is no “small thing” (no pun intended) in the vast world of NYC public schools!
