Ms. Brenda Jackson, Pre-K Teacher

Giving the gift of a good educational foundation has always been central to my teaching philosophy. After teaching for 25 years at P.S. 51 and seeing my students from elementary grades achieve creditable careers, I have come to realize that teaching is a profession that provides extreme satisfaction, self actualization and tremendous fulfillment.

My career started At P.S. 51 October, 1983. I briefly worked as a Reading/Art cluster and later worked in many capacities from Pre-K to 8th grade.

Graduate school opened new interesting teaching methods which I juxtaposed with my earlier teaching protocol. Comparing new teaching techniques with traditional styles showed a significant shift in approach and results. I have now become an advocate of the social and emotional development of the young learner which creates a strong foundation for cognitive development in later years.
After retirement, I intend to explore emotional development of children in a more in-depth and scientific way. I hope to publish books on the subject. Luckily, my husband Tony is a publisher and will help in distribution opportunities. My two daughters Adesuwa and Zaria will hopefully benefit from my experience in the field of education, despite their current interests in Medicine and the Arts.
